Chris Thatcher approached me to create a band identity in contrast to the slick and highly produced concepts he usually known for. Using the lyrics and low key fuzz guitars provided I approached this using vintage graphic methods - all you need is a photocopier, typewriter and a marker pen!

Inspiration

Over the years performing with Prog Rockers Pearl Handled Revolver, Chris has been inspired to create his own concept band Bone Cave. This goes against the high production values of his prior work and he instead has recorded everything on two old phones. Inspired by the demos I received I approached the album artwork with a nod to the Dada movement and created layers of images using a photocopy method

Website design and development

Using the album art, I built the site from scratch and coded layers of ‘paper’ to display the lyric sheets, giving a cool abstract vibe to the desktop version. On mobile it is simplified but still given the ‘Bone Cave’ branding

Video

For Bone Cave’s first single ‘Somewhere in England’, Chris provided me with a selection of clips he filmed of his children with ‘The Wicker Man’ style masks on. Using these and being inspired by choppy cuts in movies such films as ‘Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows’, I moved all the characters in the video to the respective beats of the drums and the rhythm of the guitar. This gave the video an otherworldly vibe
